From fantasy languages to fish tanks – a few reads for water lovers.
Who (or what) is an Aquan?
The word comes from the Latin aqua, “water”, and fiction has loved it ever since. In Star Trek, the Aquans are the water-breathing natives of the planet Argo. In Pathfinder, Aquan is the language of water elementals and sea creatures, spoken far beyond the shores of the ordinary world.
Whether on a screen, in a rulebook or on the page, an Aquan always stands for the same thing: life that began in the water and never really left it.

Your first fish tank in 5 steps
1. Pick the size. Bigger tanks are more stable; 10 gallons is a friendly start. 2. Choose a kit with filter and light. 3. Treat the water with a conditioner. 4. Cycle the tank for a few weeks so helpful bacteria can grow. 5. Add fish slowly, a few at a time.
Don’t skip a test kit – it tells you what your eyes can’t.

Why water matters: aquaculture today
Water covers about 71% of the Earth’s surface, and it is increasingly where our food comes from. Aquaculture – farming fish, shellfish and seaweed – now supplies roughly half of the aquatic animals we eat, and organisations such as the World Aquaculture Society work to make it sustainable.
The same care applies at home: clean water, balanced feeding and respect for living things.
